As a mother of two special education children in Fairfax County, I have been very grateful for all the support and advice I have received from Dr. Heitin. I would never attend an IEP meeting without her! There are so many things that parents of children with special education needs don’t know about accessing and receiving services. He was barely passing and I didn’t know what to do. He was tested through the county, but was found ineligible for services. She reviewed by son’s profile- not only did she tell me what his disability was, but advised me how to proceed to get him an IEP that would address his needs. That was eight years ago. My son is going to graduate this June and has been accepted to college. He never would have gotten this far without her help.

I moved from out of state to Virginia and my autistic son’s education was one of my main concerns. Unfortunately, my son was placed at an inappropriate program and I was desperate to find somebody who could help. I found Dr. Heitin by searching some parents forums and user groups – feedback from people who used her service were overwhelmingly positive. Dr. Heitin carefully reviewed my son’s files and pointed out what the school should have done according to the laws and regulations. She also went to observe my son’s program at school and gathered evidence that later helped convince the school that the program was not appropriate.
